We make handspun yarn for knitting and for jerseys made-to-measure in certain classic designs. Our beautiful, light soft yarns are spun on an old fashioned spinning wheel from the fleeces of sheep that are mostly reared on local farms.
We can supply yarns in nature’s shades, or coloured with natural dyes. Our natural colours - white, beige, grey, brown - are used singularly or in various mixtures and wound into 100 gram skeins, washed and ready for knitting. We also dye the wools in a verity of attractive colours such as madder (red), logwood (blue/purple), Brazilwood (apricot), fustic (yellow) etc.
Because these are purely natural dies mostly made from trees and plants, each batch of colour comes up in a slightly different shade so it is essential to dye a whole batch of wool for a sweater at the same time as ‘matching’ is impossible.
Each garment made from Honeymead Homespun wools is absolutely individual.
